BISHKEK. March 3 (Interfax) - A Tajik police officer has been detained in southern Kyrgyzstan for carrying 36 kilograms of hashish, the Kyrgyz State Drug Control Service said on Thursday.
"A policeman from Tajikistan has been detained in the village of Zhashtyk in the Batken region. Some 36 kilograms of Afghan hashish were found in his car," a service representative said.
The drugs, which were packed in two sport bags, cost 4 million soms (about $55,000). Another Tajik citizen, who was travelling together with the policemen, was also apprehended.
The State Drug Control Service launched a criminal inquiry.
The suspects were put in a detention center. Investigative procedures are underway.
