Over 40 ceasefire violations recorded in Syria on March 2-3 - Russian Defense Ministry (Part 2)

HMEIMIM, Latakia, Syria. March 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian center for the reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria recorded 41 ceasefire violations by members of terrorist groups on March 2-3.

"Seven violations each were committed in the Idlib and Damascus governorates, four each in the Homs and Daraa governorates, three in the Latakia governorate, two in Quneitra governorate, and one in the Hama governorate," Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko, the head of the Russian center for the reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, told journalists on Friday.

The most complicated situation is in the Aleppo governorate, where 13 ceasefire violations have been recorded over the past 24 hours, Kuralenko said.

"For instance, the city neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood, Sheikh Aqil, al-Castello, and al-Murj were repeatedly shelled with mortars by the Jabhat Ansar al-Din and Fastaqim Kama Umirt armed groups on March 3. An unidentified armed group fired mortars upon the populated area of Karm al-Jabal, from fire emplacements in the area of Qagir al-Asham," he said.

An illegal armed unit also attacked Syrian government forces, after shelling it with mortars near the village of al-Tamura north of Aleppo, Kuralenko said. The unit's affiliation has yet to be determined, he said.

"In some instances, armed groups of militants acted from territories within the districts whose coordinates U.S. partners shared with the Russian side on February 27, 2016. It is known that there should be groups there that agreed to cease the fighting," he said.
