MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax) - The Russian President's Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian held another round of consultations on Monday to discuss the task of ensuring the cessation of hostilities in Syria.
During the consultations, the pair exchanged views on a range of pressing issues concerning the Middle Eastern agenda, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Particular focus was on the task of ensuring the cessation of hostilities in Syria and the uncompromising consolidated fight against ISIL and other terror groups in line with the UN SC Resolution 2268, as well as a swift political resolution of the Syrian crisis through an inclusive, intra-Syrian negotiating process under the UN aegis, based on the UN SC Resolution 2254," the ministry said.
"The parties reaffirmed the importance of further efficient coordination of efforts between Moscow and Tehran, including within the International Syria Support Group," the ministry said.
The pair also discussed other acute regional conflicts, including the situation in Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon, the Palestinian problem, and the situation in the Persian Gulf zone.
The diplomats acknowledged the need for a broad involvement of the Middle Eastern states in resolution of the crises on the basis of respect for the generally recognized norms and principles of international law and the UN Charter, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
