Moscow hopes to continue intense dialogue with China - Lavrov

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Russia is hopeful that its intense political dialogue with China will continue in 2016, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

"Last year saw five meetings of the heads of our states, during which important decisions, aimed at promoting our cooperation in practical terms, were adopted. We hope that the political dialogue will be no less intense this year as well," Lavrov said at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

"It is a priority of our foreign policy to comprehensively bolster cooperation and strategic partnership with China," he added.

Beijing remains Moscow's leading trade and business partner amid the complicated economic situation in the world today, the Russian minister added.

"We have a mutual desire to further boost the quality of our economic cooperation," Lavrov said.

Interaction between Russia and China in the international arena is becoming an "increasingly important factor of global politics," the Russian minister said.

"Our countries display an example of a balanced and pragmatic approach towards tackling multiple problems, and they secure solutions to them on the basis of international law, primarily the UN Charter," he said.
