Central Military District to enlarge area protected from air strikes manifold by 2020 - Shoigu

MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - The radius of deterrence of a potential enemy's air strikes by air defense missile forces in the Central Military District of Russia will grow manifold by 2020, Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu has said.

"The ongoing efforts will enlarge the radius of deterrence of a potential enemy's air strikes and the protected area manifold by 2020. Besides, the ability to destroy airborne targets, including cruise missiles, flying on low, medium and high altitudes will increase a lot," he said at a meeting of the Defense Ministry board, which discussed an improvement of air defense for critical infrastructures in the Central Military District.

Brand new and modernized air defense systems were supplied to the district forces in 2014-2015, Shoigu said.
