MOSCOW. March 30 (Interfax) - Moscow is disappointed with the position of Western countries, which have blocked a UN Security Council statement on Palmyra, and intends to submit a relevant draft to the UNESCO Executive Board.
"We are not so much surprised and disappointed with the position of Western colleagues as not sure about the genuineness of their intentions of peaceful settlement in Syria," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters on Wednesday.
"In fact, they do not care about Syria's liberation from terrorists, assistance to the peace process on the ground and preservation of cultural values. All they care about is geopolitical interests," she said.
"The Russian side has decided to submit the draft of a relevant decision on Palmyra to the UNESCO Executive Board," Zakharova said.
