Syrian ceasefire violated seven times in past 24 hours - Russian Defense Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax-AVN) - There have been seven ceasefire violations in Syrian provinces in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.

"The ceasefire in Syria has generally held. Over the past 24 hours we recorded seven violations (five in Latakia province, one in Aleppo and one in Damascus)," according to a bulletin posted on the ministry's website on Friday.

In particular, militants in the Latakia province, claiming to be the opposition, from the Ahrar Ash-Sham group, fired mortars and large-caliber machineguns against Mazraat-Omaro and Sandran, the ministry said.

Furthermore, mortars were fired from the village of Zeitounjik against the governmental troops' positions near the village of Shmais.

In the city of Aleppo, Liwa al-Sultan Murad militants in the Ashrafia area fired mortars against the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood, injuring several people, according to the defense ministry.

In the city of Damascus, militants fired mortars against residential buildings of the El Sakhiya neighborhood, the ministry added.
