Baku denies statements by Stepanakert official on Turkish special task force participation in hostilities in Karabakh

BAKU. April 6 (Interfax) - The statements by Armenia on the participation by Turkish troops in the operations conducted by the Azeri Armed Forces over the past few days are false, Vagif Dargahli, the head of the Azeri Defense Ministry press service, told Interfax.

"The Azeri Defense Ministry says the country's armed forces are capable of rebuffing the enemy, and liberating the occupied territories. We have all of the military equipment, modern weapons and well-trained personnel needed for that," he said.

"Additionally, the recent events showed that Azerbaijan, besides active troops, has very many volunteers who have not even asked, but even demanded, that they be conscripted. Other volunteers have gone to the hostilities zone without authorization, and we had to put up checkpoints to prevent them from going to the front," Dargahli said.

Arsen Melik-Shakhnazarov, adviser to the permanent office of the self-proclaimed Nagorny Karabakh Republic in Russia, said earlier that Stepanakert had evidence of the participation by a Turkish special task force in the hostilities in Nagorny Karabakh.
