MOSCOW. April 22 (Interfax) - Militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) have made attempts to mount an offensive in Latakia Province in the past 24 hours, the Russian Center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria has said.
The center's report was published on the Russian Defense Ministry's website on Thursday evening.
In Latakia Province, "units of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group once again made an attempt to stage an offensive on government forces' positions near the settlements of Ikko, Bsharfah, Nehsheba and Sandran," it said.
According to the Russian center, Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists carried out mortar strikes against the northern parts of the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood from their positions in Aleppo's al-Shabibi neighborhood.
Efforts to rebuild the town of al-Quaryatayn in Homs Province have continued in the past 24 hours, it said. Repair brigades of Syrian builders have cleared 20 meters of streets of rubble and have restored 200 meters of power lines. Bomb disposal experts have defused 11 landmines, which were planted by retreating militants.
Water and power supply systems have also been restored in the settlement of al-Balatah, Latakia Province.
