LPR reports attack on its positions from Ukrainian side

LUHANSK. May 13 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian military opened fire on the territory of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) once in the past 24 hours, the LPR militia told Interfax.

"The situation on the contact line remains stable but tense and has a tendency to aggravate. One attack on militia positions was registered in the past 24 hours," the source told Interfax on Friday.

The source said the Ukrainian military opened fire on the area of the village of Kalinovka from the direction of the settlement of Luhanske using an automatic grenade launcher on May 12.

"No one was hurt in the attack," the militia said.

The law enforcement agencies of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) have reported numerous attacks on the village of Spartak and the territory of the Yasynuvata checkpoint.

"The attacks on Spartak and the Yasynuvata checkpoint continued from 10:10 p.m. until 11:50 p.m. A total of 24 mines of 82mm caliber and 17 mines of 120mm caliber were launched," the Donetsk News Agency quoted a source in the DPR defense and security agencies as saying.

The source said fire was opened from positions in the Avdiivka area and the ventilation shaft of the Butovskaya mine. Besides mortars, Ukrainian troops used grenade launchers and firearms.

According to earlier reports, citing Ukrainian troops, the militia opened fire on Avdiivka ten times on Thursday, including with use of 120mm mortars prohibited by the Minsk agreements.
