MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - The High Negotiations Committee (HNC) still does not find the situation in Syria to be suitable for the resumption of negotiations with Damascus and continues blaming the Bashar al-Assad regime for the escalation of violence in the country.
"The HNC believes that the efforts to resume negotiations should be accompanied by the adoption of serious measures to de-escalate the conflict by the regime and its allies," the HNC said in a statement released after the HNC committee's meeting in Riyadh on May 26-28, the text of which was obtained by Interfax on Sunday.
The opposition also emphasized the need to look for "an international instrument to monitor ceasefire observance, determine the party breaching it and taking tough measures on it."
The HNC also called for prompt access of humanitarian organizations to the needed areas in accordance with the schedule established by the UN and the release of prisoners.
"The need to provide a safe environment for negotiations [...] by lifting the breaking the sieges of besieged areas [...], the release of prisoners, stop attacks on civilians and civilian facilities was confirmed," the opposition said.
"The Committee confirmed its support of the efforts made by the international community in the search for a political solution to the crisis and the intention to publish a document in the near future outlining a comprehensive model of a political solution in accordance with the Geneva agreements," the HNC said in its statement.
