ASHGABAT. June 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia cannot ignore terrorist threats coming from Syria, Libya, Iraq and other countries, Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu said.
"Being aware of today's threats, we cannot help but mention them. These include international terrorism, which definitely causes everyone concern, especially as we are situated in regions bordering Afghanistan. Clearly, we cannot ignore the ongoing developments in Syria, Libya and Iraq. We should certainly take them very seriously. And this is what Russia has been doing," Shoigu said at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Thursday.
The Russian minister informed Berdimuhamedow about the progress of Russia's military operation in Syria.
Turkmenistan is a strategic partner of Russia, Shoigu said, adding that relations had been developing in the economy and culture amongst other areas. Personal relations between the Russian and Turkmen presidents are a major source of this partnership, he said.
Bilateral strategic partnership is being constantly supported with practical deeds, the Russian defense minister said.
