ASTANA. June 10 (Interfax) - A group of extremists being searched for following Sunday's terrorists attacks has been neutralized in Aktobe, the press service of Kazakhstan's National Security Committee said on Friday.
"The Antiterrorist Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan informs that forces of the Aktobe region's operations headquarters for the fight against terrorism have neutralized the group of criminals being searched for," it said.
It was established during search measures that the terrorists were hiding at an apartment in a residential building on Nekrasov Street. Special operations units of the National Security Committee and the Interior Ministry encircled the building and blocked the apartment with the terrorists. Tenants were evacuated with all safety precautions.
"During the negotiations, the terrorists refused to voluntarily surrender and opened fire. Subsequent attempts to persuade them to lay down their arms were also unsuccessful. The four terrorists hiding at the apartment were eliminated during the storming conducted by special operations forces," it said.
"Simultaneously, the terrorists' accomplice fired a smooth-bore gun at a police patrol at an intersection of Myasoyedov and Arynov Streets and was eliminated by return fire," the press service said.
Two police officers suffered minor wounds. No civilians were killed or injured.
