Kremlin declines to comment on Russian Minsk ambassador's troop redeployment remarks

MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov did not comment on the statement by Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov saying that the redeployment of Russian troops to the Belarusian border is a preventive measure taken in response to increasing radicalism in Ukraine.

"I would recommend that you turn to the embassy for more explanations, or the Foreign Ministry. It's a statement made by the ambassador and it lies more in the terms of reference of the Foreign Ministry," Peskov said, responding to a question posed by a journalist from a Ukrainian media publication.

He also said Surikov's words may have been taken out of context.

Surikov said earlier in Minsk that the people of Belarus should not be concerned about the redeployment of Russian troops to their borders.
