MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - The UN Secretary-General's report on the threats associated with the Islamic State (banned in Russia) provides a one-sided coverage of the issue, says nothing about the role of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the fight against terrorism and ignores the "Turkish connection" in the various support provided to ISIL, Ilya Rogachev, director of the department on new challenges and threats of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Interfax.
"The report, which was prepared in accordance with the UN Security Council's Resolution 2253 and has recently been discussed in the Security Council, created a totally distorted idea of the current situation in the fight against ISIL and the factors that influenced it," Rogachev said.
He said that "the report, specifically, said nothing about the role of the Aerospace Forces and the Syrian army in the fight against terrorism." "It said that only the international coalition is fighting ISIL. Not a word was said about Russia's contribution in the liberation of Palmyra. It turns out that no one needs to know about that," the diplomat said.
