Sargsyan calls for setting up mechanism to probe ceasefire violations in Karabakh area at meeting with Putin

ST. PETERSBURG. June 20 (Interfax) - The establishment of a mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area should lay a good foundation for holding negotiations on the matter, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said.

"Our position on Karabakh is known to everyone. We want this issue to be resolved exclusively in a peaceful way. And I would like to thank you among the [OSCE] Minsk Group co-chair countries for the understanding and efforts that you devote to this issue," Sargsyan said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Monday.

"But, unfortunately, such conflicts cannot be resolved at only one party's wish. And we would be glad if we could move ahead today on the implementation of the agreements that we have reached, that is, set up mechanisms to investigate ceasefire violations. And this should produce a working attitude for holding negotiations," he said.

Putin agreed to discuss all these issues.
