MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax) - Moscow welcomes London's report on the need to resume NATO-Russia dialogue but disagrees with its opinion on the situation in southeastern Ukraine and on Crimea, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"I suggest we take a positive look at this report. Why positive? Because, as you have already said, it declares the need to establish dialogue with Russia in spite of the disagreements," Peskov told the press in response to a request for comment on the report of the British Parliament's Defense Committee.
"Regretfully, the British side is known for tending to sever dialogue in particular areas, including the most sensitive and important ones, so the wish to communicate is a source of satisfaction and something which fully matches the unwavering stance of Moscow that international problems and bilateral issues can and should be resolved only by means of dialogue," he said.
Peskov said, however, that Russia disagreed with report wordings. "We cannot understand such wordings as 'annexation of Crimea', and we cannot agree with them. From our point of view, the assertion regarding southeastern Ukraine is another incorrect interpretation and incorrect wording. As to NATO, it is hard to say which role NATO is playing in deterrence; we keep saying that the NATO enlargement course, the NATO expansion policy are definitely a further proof of the aggressive nature of that organization," the presidential press secretary said.
The alliance's activity does not add to the security of its members - "quite the opposite, it is provoking tensions, first and foremost, on our common European continent," he said.
