Moscow calls for talks on Korean Peninsula situation - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - Russia calls for a diplomatic solution to the Korean Peninsula problems and does not welcome any threats, Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador at Large Oleg Davydov told Interfax.

"Our principled position is that all of the issues related to the problems of the Korean Peninsula are yet to be resolved by political and diplomatic methods, in a peaceful manner and through the relevant talks. Therefore, we do not laud any threats for the use of force, no matter from where they are coming," he said, commenting on Pyongyang's threats to use "physical measures" of impact in retaliation to the deployment of the THAAD system in South Korea.

"However, this remains the fact that the latest decision taken by the United States and South Korea to deploy American missile defense complexes in the south of Korea had the negative impact on the regional situation, which is deteriorating noticeably now. It is also understandable that the North Korean side is probably having some nervousness in current conditions that is prompting it to issue harsh statements," Davydov said.
