MAKHACHKALA. July 12 (Interfax) - A criminal investigation has been launched based on three articles of the Russian Penal Code in Dagestan's Dokuzpara district, where an active terrorist group member, Admir Talibov, was eliminated on Monday, senior aide to the director of the Russian Investigative Committee's regional branch Rasul Temirbekov told Interfax.
The criminal case was opened on charges of 'an attempt on the life of an officer of law enforcement agencies', 'illegal turnover of weapons' and 'illegal turnover of explosive devices'.
"Investigators' theory indicates that an active member of the 'Yuzhnaya' sabotage and terrorist group, Admir Talibov, born 1993, was trapped by security forces in one of the houses in the village of Miskindzha in the Dokuzpara district at around 4:00 p.m. on July 11, 2016. Talibov refused to surrender and lay down his arms and opened fire in the direction of security forces. He was neutralized by return fire. A criminal case has been opened into this incident," Temirbekov said.
There were no casualties or injuries among security personnel and civilians, he said.
The information available to investigators indicates that Talibov was on the wanted list for bombing the Dzhemikentsky checkpoint in February 2016, when two police officers were killed and more than 15 people were injured.
Investigators are currently working to establish all circumstances of the July 11 incident and are investigating whether Talibov was involved in other serious crimes, Temirbekov said.
