Russian, German foreign ministers discuss situation in Donbas, Syria in telephone conversation

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier had a telephone conversation at Germany's initiative on August 9, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday evening.

Lavrov and Steinmeier "continued to discuss relevant issues related to the promotion of the implementation of the Minsk Package of Measures to settle the situation in southeastern Ukraine. They mentioned the need to synchronize steps toward a political settlement of the internal conflict in Ukraine and the resolution of security issues," it said.

The ministers also "exchanged opinions on problems of developing the situation in Syria, international assistance to the peace process in this country with an emphasis placed on the resumption of an inclusive dialogue between the government and the opposition within the framework of the Geneva process, steps to make the fight against terrorist and extremist organization more efficient, and the resolution of humanitarian problems," it said.

Lavrov and Steinmeier also discussed various aspects of the Russian-German agenda, including a schedule of upcoming bilateral contacts, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
