Shoigu assigns 3,500 men, 400 vehicles to help clean up typhoon aftermath in Primorye

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu has ordered to set up a group of forces in Primorye to help clean up the typhoon aftermath.

"As many as 3,500 servicemen, more than 400 pieces of special and engineering hardware, 12 planes and six helicopters of the Russian Defense Ministry have been assigned to help," the ministry press service said on Thursday.

Task forces of Russia's National Defense Center, local authorities and the Emergency Situations Ministry are constantly monitoring flood conditions in the Primorye territory and coordinating the activity of deployed men and hardware, the report said.

Pouring rains have flooded 1,284 homes, those of more than 3,500, people and 356 yards in Primorye. More than 800 people are staying at flood shelters. An emergency situation regime has been put into place in 13 districts of the territory.
