Russia welcomes Egypt's wish to provide its army with Russian weapons - Shoigu

MOSCOW. Sept 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Modern Russian weapons will bolster the Egyptian Armed Forces' potential, Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu said.

"We have been witnessing a steady upward trend and a growing volume of contracts in the military-technical field. We are pleased to say that Egypt seeks to use modern armaments and military hardware made in Russia to equip its national army," Shoigu said at the third meeting of the Russian-Egyptian Military-Technical Cooperation Commission on Monday.

"Efficiency and the high combat potential of Russian weapons have been vividly demonstrated by the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria," the minister said.

Shoigu called a significant event in Russian-Egyptian cooperation the protocol signed between the two governments in May 2016 that connected Egypt to the GLONASS high-precision satellite navigation network. "This document paves the way to further interaction in this high-tech area," he said.

The Russian-Egyptian Military-Technical Cooperation Commission will sum up last year's results and set priorities for next year.
