DONETSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - The number of shelling incidents in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has risen to nearly 50 in the past 24 hours, and the Ukrainian army has been using mortars and artillery, Eduard Basurin, a senior officer of the DPR Defense Ministry, told the press.
"We have been observing a growing number of Ukrainian army attacks in the republic's territory although a new truce was declared on September 1. In all, the Ukrainian army opened fire 49 times over the past day in violation of the 'regime of quiet'," he said.
The Ukrainian army has been seen using 122mm artillery (two shots) and 120mm and 82mm mortars (seven shots) against populated localities in the DPR, he said.
In addition, infantry combat vehicles, grenade launchers and small arms were used, he said.
"Intentional shelling of DPR territory inflicted a serious injury on a serviceman. He was rushed to hospital," Basurin said.
The Ukrainian army's mortars damaged five homes in the Petrovskyi district of Donetsk, he said.
