DUSHANBE. Sept 5 (Interfax-AVN) - A Dushanbe court has sentenced Dilovar Muzafarov, a resident of the Tajik capital, to 6.5 years in a high-security penal colony after finding him guilty of an attempt to fight on the side of the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIL), which is banned in Tajikistan, Russia and some other countries.
"Muzafarov had periodically visited the Russian Federation since 2007; the last visit was in December 2014. In Novosibirsk, he met Tajik citizens Abdurakhmanov and Jafarov, who encouraged him to join the terrorist group Islamic State," the press service for the Tajik Prosecutor General's Office said.
"Muzafarov intended to fly to Turkey on a flight from Moscow to Istanbul on May 4, 2016 to carry out a criminal plan and was detained at Moscow Vnukovo Airport by Russian law enforcement officials and returned to Tajikistan. The Ismoili Somoni District court on July 28, 2016 sentenced Muzafarov to 6.5 years in a high-security penal colony based on Part 3 of Article 32 and Article 401(1) of the Tajik Criminal Code," the report said.
