Russia backed de Mistura's initiative on Aleppo, it is only possible if all guarantee absolutely safety on Castello road - Antonov

MOSCOW. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Russia backed the United Nations' Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura's initiative on Aleppo, which can only be implemented if all conflicting parties guarantee the safety of the delivery route for humanitarian aid, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said.

"We supported the initiative of the UN Secretary General's Special Representative for Syria Staffan de Mistura to organize a delivery of international humanitarian aid to Aleppo from Turkey by Castello Road," he told reporters on Monday.

"This initiative, as we repeatedly stressed, is only possible if all parties to the Syrian conflict guarantee absolute safety of the route," Antonov said.
