MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Russia will continue its efforts to prompt the conflicting parties in Syria to sit at the negotiating table and stands ready to further cooperate with everyone who can influence the situation in the country, Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said.
"Russia has proposed its resolution to the [UN] Security Council. We will keep on holding negotiations so as to finally make the opposition forces [and] the Syrian government sit at the negotiating table - surely, except those whose arms are covered in blood up to their elbows, like terrorist organizations," Matviyenko told journalists on Wednesday.
"We are ready to cooperate with everyone who can influence the situation in Syria in both a bilateral format and at international forums," she said.
Matviyenko called for providing preconditions for starting a peaceful political process in Syria, as there is no military solution to this problem.
"The problem of Syria is very pressing, and not a single country can resolve it on its own. There is a need to really combine efforts, implement agreements that have been reached, and move ahead toward a peaceful political settlement. We won't depart from this way," she said.
