NATO supports 'Normandy format's drafting of roadmap to implement Minsk Agreements - Stoltenberg

BRUSSELS. Oct 21 (Interfax) - NATO backs the 'Normandy format's initiative to elaborate a roadmap to implement the Minsk Agreements, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.

Stoltenberg told a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Brussels, on Thursday, that he has welcomed yesterday's 'Normandy format' meeting, which was held in Berlin.

He said that NATO supports the 'Normandy format' efforts to settle the situation in eastern Ukraine, including the initiative to devise a roadmap to implement the Minsk Agreements.

The Alliance's secretary general underlined the importance for all of the parties to honor the Minsk Agreements. He said that it has been very important to implement the Minsk Agreements, as this has been the only way to attain peace in eastern Ukraine. All of the parties should fulfil the Minsk Agreements, he said, urging Russia to honor its obligations under these agreements.

Stoltenberg said that NATO would continue backing Ukraine in practical and political areas, including through its various trustee funds.
