Japanese foreign minister hopes progress in peace treaty with Russia to be made during Putin's visit to Japan

TOKYO. Nov 30 (Interfax) - Tokyo expects progress in the issue of peace treaty with Moscow during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Japan in December 2017.

"President Putin will pay a visit to Yamaguchi, homeland of Prime Minister [Shinzo] Abe on December 15. I hope that during the visit a comprehensive discussion based on a strong determination and relations of confidence of two leaders will be held on this issue and we will be able to see progress," Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said in an interview with Interfax prior to Putin's visit to Japan.

He said that Prime Minister Abe and President Putin "are currently holding difficult negotiations with a strong determination to resolve this issue during their generation."
