TBILISI. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has thanked the United States for its assistance in raising Georgia's defense capacity.
He made the statement at a meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter, the Georgian governmental press service said.
The Pentagon representative said, in turn, that cooperation between Georgia and the United States in the field of defense and security had reached a whole new level.
The defense and security partnership memorandum signed during the recent visit of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to Tbilisi "opens up new vistas" for Georgia, the press service said.
Carpenter came to Tbilisi to discuss the funds assigned to Georgia from the U.S. defense budget for strengthening defense and security.
U.S. Ambassador in Tbilisi Ian Kelly said in his comments on Carpenter's visit to Georgia on Monday that he was expecting Georgia's concrete proposals as to how the funds allocated by Washington would be spent.
The amount of money allocated to Georgia from the U.S. defense budget has not been disclosed.
