MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Ankara is actually promoting contacts between Moscow and Syrian opposition members, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told Interfax in an interview, noting that progress had been made.
"Indeed, we are doing everything we can to promote contacts between opposition members and the Russian Federation, and these efforts have been highly successful," he said.
"It will be good for everyone if an understanding develops into a signed document. It is high time to achieve results," the prime minister said.
It is hard to say what content this agreement may have, Yildirim said.
"We share the objective of saving people who are being killed under fire. Nothing is more precious than human life. If we stop the bloodshed, if we can do that, we are ready to do anything for stopping it and we will do our best to stop it," he said.
"In this context, the Russian government should exert greater pressure on the Syrian government so that it takes steps towards the cessation of hostilities," the Turkish prime minister said.
Western media outlets said earlier that contacts between Syrian opposition members and Moscow had been taking place on Turkish territory without the involvement of the United States.
