Russian enterprises prepare to produce state-of-the-art heavy intercontinental ballistic missiles - commander (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Dec 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian rocket and space industry is preparing to begin producing state-of-the-art heavy liquid-fuelled intercontinental ballistic missiles, Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev, commander of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN), told reporters on Thursday.

"For heavy class missile systems, technical re-equipment of defense enterprises is being conducted under a relevant federal target program," he said.

"Long-term state contracts on Yars missile systems have been signed and are being fulfilled in the amount needed by the RVSN. The re-armament rates are planned without so-called ups and downs of production, with optimal annual product output," he said.

According to earlier reports, a heavy liquid-fuelled silo-based intercontinental ballistic missile Sarmat is being developed in Russia. A series of defense enterprises, including the Miass-based Makeyev State Rocket Center, are involved in this work.
