Ground Forces receive several sets of tactical air defense missile systems in 2016

MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - The Russian Ground Forces were supplied with over 130 new BMP-3 infantry combat vehicles and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, in addition to modern air defense missile systems, in 2016, the Russian Defense Ministry's website said in a report quoting words of Ground Forces Commander Col. Gen. Oleg Salyukov.

The Ground Forces were provided with two brigade sets of Buk-M3 and Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems and two division sets of Tor-M2 and Tor-M2U anti-aircraft missile systems last year.

"The Ground Forces received brand-new Verba man-portable missile systems, more than 130 new BMP-3 and BTR-82A vehicles, and over two dozen Tigr-M armored vehicles equipped with the Arbalet-DM combat module," the commander said.

The Buk-M2 anti-aircraft system designed and manufactured by Almaz-Antey Concern is a highly mobile, multifunctional complex operating at medium range. It is designed to destroy strategic and combat airborne targets, such as planes, helicopters, missiles and other aerodynamic vehicles. The Buk-M2 can resist hostiles under continuous gunfire.
