Some 152,000 people sent to Russian army during fall campaign

MOSCOW. Jan 11 (Interfax) - Of the over 620,000 conscripts who turned up at military recruitment offices during the fall campaign, 152,000 went to the army, head of the main organizing and mobilization directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Col. Gen. Vasily Tonkoshkurov said.

"Some 623,000 conscripts went before commissions, 152,000 were conscripted and over 470,000 given deferrals or exemptions from the military draft," Tonkoshkurov said at a Wednesday meeting which took stock of the campaign.

In all, around 3,000 recruitment commissions operated during the draft campaign and involved over 1,800 representatives from public organizations, he said. Over 9,500 parents were present at delivery of resolutions with respect to their sons, and over 13,000 doctors participated in medical examinations.

The fall campaign to draft 152,000 Russians aged 18 to 27 started on October 1 and ended on December 31, 2016.
