MOSCOW. Jan 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Arctic brigade of the Northern Fleet has begun its first training exercise in 2017, the Fleet said on Wednesday.
"The exercise is taking place on a remote training site of the Northern Fleet's ground and coastal troops, which features the specific Kola [Peninsula] transpolar terrain in equal measure: sparse woods, ravines, rock piles and similar natural obstacles," the Northern Fleet said in a press release obtained by Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
The exercise involves drivers of TTM-4902PS-10 off-road vehicles, who are practicing their skills in overcoming obstacles on uneven ground.
"The drills are the first training experience for the drivers in 2017 and a good test for the vehicles. The tactical-technical characteristics of off-road vehicles enable them to overcome all obstacles in low temperatures and heavy snowfall. In some parts of the training site snow cover could be as deep as two and a half meters," the press release said.
TTM-490PS-10 is a modular off-road vehicle, with a power module at the front which can carry up to six people including the driver, and a transformable 10-passenger module at the rear. The vehicle can be easily converted into a sleeping, medical or command-and-control unit.
The vehicle can operate in temperatures of between minus and plus 50 degrees Celsius and overcome obstacles as high as 1.8 meters.
