MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - The identities of militants eliminated during a security operation in Chechnya have been established, a source in security agencies of Russia's North Caucasus Federal District told Interfax over the phone.
"Their identities have been established. One of them is Uzum-Khadzhi Madayev, born 1980, a resident of the village of Kurchaloi. He was convicted on a whole number of charges and sentenced to 12 years and six months in December 2004," the source said, adding that he had been under administrative surveillance since January 2015.
"The three others, born 1984, 1988 and 1992, respectively, are residents of the town of Shali and the village of Germenchuk," he said.
A Russian National Guard serviceman died of wounds sustained during the operation, he said.
Automatic weapons and ammunition were confiscated from the scene of the armed clash, the source said.
Chechnya head Ramzan Kadyrov told reporters on Wednesday that four militants had been eliminated during a security operation in the republic.
A source in the North Caucasus Federal District's security services told Interfax later that a gang network had been eliminated by Chechen law enforcement agencies during a large-scale security operation - several dozen militants closely connected with Islamic State (ISIL, a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) had been eliminated or detained during it.
