Moscow hopes Putin, Trump can get along - Peskov

MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Moscow hopes that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will get along, but that will require reciprocal respect for each other's interests, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

"President Vladimir Putin clearly and explicitly demonstrates the readiness to respect our partners by his deeds and his remarks. However, respect can be only mutual, it cannot be unilateral," Peskov said, answering a question as to the terms Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump could get along on.

"We believe there should be much more of mutual respect in Russia-U.S. relations," Peskov said.

"Indeed, Moscow hopes that our presidents will get along. At least, Mr. Trump has mentioned the readiness for dialogue. This does not mean there is readiness to fully agree with one another - this is hardly possible, and Moscow has no such expectations. However, dialogue can help us search for a way out from many difficult situations," Peskov said.
