Russian, Chinese diplomats coordinate stances on Syria settlement

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Russia and China have had productive consultations on Syria and have discussed ways to promote a ceasefire in that country, Sergei Vershinin, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Middle East and North Africa Department, said after a meeting with Chinese Governmental Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan.

"We are satisfied with today's consultations with our Chinese partners, which are regular consultations, and we are grateful for the frank communication with our colleagues, especially on the subject of Syria," he said.

"Today's consultations focused on further efforts to strengthen the ceasefire regime throughout Syrian territory," the diplomat said.

Xie lauded the consultations, as well.

"This is our third visit to Moscow; the situation on the ground has been changing very rapidly, and Russia and China, being strategic partners, should have an opportunity to exchange opinions and to exercise coordination on the Syria issue," he said.

"Today's discussion has been very useful; we have discussed the entire range of issues and have exchanged opinions on peace settlement matters," he said.
