MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - A new headquarters, stationary barracks and a dormitory will be built for the Russian aviation group at the Hmeimim airfield, an informed source told Interfax.
"Over 500 modern residential modules with air conditioners and heating systems for wintertime will be built at Hmeimim airfield for comfortable accommodation of the personnel," he said.
Container-type modules will be replaced with stationary structures, the source said.
"Barracks and dormitories will be built to replace the residential block-modules, as will a building of the headquarters to house the aviation group's command," the source said.
At present the Russian base in Hmeimim is equipped with service rooms with washing machines, ironing boards and irons, he said.
"Over100 mobile shower modules were installed for the troops. Three canteens have been organized for the troops: sergeants and privates, army engineers, and pilots," the source said.
The Hmeimim base has its own bakery, he said.
A special water-purification facility is operating at the airfield, he said. There are a recreation center, a cafe, a gym, and a stationary telephone-call center for the Russian troops, he said. The aviation group at Hmeimim has its own fleet of cars, he said. .
"Same household-servicing conditions were created for the personnel at the Navy's supply base in Tartus," the source told Interfax.
A new truce has been in place in Syria since December 30, 2016.
Russian military leaders announced a reduction of its grouping in Syria.
The Russian carrier strike group is leaving the Mediterranean Sea.
The first six Sukhoi Su-24 bombers were redeployed, more aircraft are scheduled to pull out, according to the Defense Ministry.
A source told Interfax earlier on Sunday that Russia is reducing its military grouping in Syria to a level necessary to ensure fighting capability.
"Two fairly serious military assets will remain in Syria after reduction of the Russian military grouping in this country: the Russian aviation group at Hmeimim airfield and a significantly expanded and modernized supply and maintenance base in the city of Tartus," the source said.
