MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - By increasing its military grouping in Europe Washington is effectively initiating a new arms race, trying to impose on Russia a confrontational model of relations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"The plans being implemented by the U.S. of large-scale deployment of armed forces in Europe possess a massive devastating potential for the entire architecture of European security, create a new military-political reality, bring in substantial imbalance in the configuration of forces on the continent, threaten with long-term destructive consequences across the Euro-Atlantic space," Zakharova was quoted on the ministry's website as saying in a reply to the media about U.S. military buildup in Europe.
"Effectively, Washington is initiating a new arms race, trying to impose on us a confrontational model of relations similar to the one that existed during the Cold War," she said.
