Obama administration took another unprofessional step by deporting Guantanamo prisoner Mingazov to UAE - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has characterized the deportation of Russian citizen Ravil Mingazov from Guantanamo to the UAE as unprofessionalism and teenage spite.

"It became known on January 19, 2017 that R. Mingazov, who was held rightless by the U.S. in Guantanamo for 14 years, was urgently deported to the UAE [...] Such a hasty action by the outgoing administration without proper consular notification looks like a manifestation of teenage spite," Russian Foreign Ministry envoy on human rights, democracy and supremacy of law Konstantin Dolgov said on Twitter.

"It's a pity that the Obama administration took another unprofessional step on the last day of Barack Obama's presidency [...] The demands for his return to Russia as a citizen of our country, which were repeatedly made by us to the U.S. authorities, were ignored," Dolgov said.
