Russia may conduct dredging works at Tartus port - agreement

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - From now on, Russia may conduct dredging works and extensions at the Syrian port of Tartus, developing floating terminals as part of the Russian naval facility's modernization.

It is mentioned in the new agreement between Russia and Syria regarding extension of the Russian naval facility near the port of Tartus and Russian military ships calling at the port.

The document was published on the Russian official legal information website on Friday.

According to the document, Russia may, upon Syria's consent, "install floating terminals and conduct dredging operations".

"The Russian side may, subject to agreement with Syria: at its own expense conduct capital repairs, an upgrade, modernization or demolition of the immovable property that it uses. The Russian side may exercise capital construction on land parcels in its use," the agreement states.
