Syrian Kurdish party approves of proposal to remove word 'Arab' from name of Syrian Republic

MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax) - The Syrian Kurdish party approved the draft constitution of Syria developed by Russia, but sees the need for its improvement, Khaled Issa, a representative of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party, told Interfax on Friday.

"We have received a draft version of the constitution developed by experts of the Russian Federation. There are many positive things in it, in particular, it removes the word 'Arab' from the name of the Syrian Republic," he said.

"We see this proposal to change the name as positive; the definition of the main religion is also abolished," the opposition activist said.

"However, unfortunately, the draft does not meet all hopes and expectations of the people of Syria," he said, adding that he is talking about the ambitions of the country's regions.
