MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The Astana and Geneva negotiating processes supplement rather than replace one another, Turkish Ambassador to Russia Huseyin Dirioz told Interfax in an interview.
He said that as he understands, the Astana process aims at establishing and maintaining a ceasefire regime across Syria, while the Geneva negotiating process mediated by the UN is strictly political.
Hence, these two processes are mutually supplementary: the ceasefire agreement reached at the meeting in Astana will allow a peace process in Syria to begin, the ambassador said.
