Lavrov assures Afghan foreign minister of support for Kabul's anti-terrorism, stabilization efforts

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - Moscow supports the efforts of Kabul to fight terrorism and to achieve sociopolitical stabilization in Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We support the efforts of the Afghan administration to achieve sociopolitical stabilization and to fight terrorism," Lavrov said at the beginning of his meeting with Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani.

"I appreciate the intensity and level of political dialogue, as well as parliamentary and foreign policy contacts, such as our close interaction at the United Nations," the minister said.

"Russia and Afghanistan are long-term close partners," he said.

"We reaffirm our interest in developing cooperation in security, economic and humanitarian affairs," the minister said.
