DUSHANBE. Feb 8 (Interfax-AVN) - A citizen of Tajikistan was sentenced by a court in Dushanbe to seven years in a high-security penal colony for an attempt to join the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIL, banned in Russia and Tajikistan).
The Ismoili Somoni District Court has found M. Vokhidov guilty, including of illegal involvement of citizens in military action on the territory of other states, the press center for the Tajik Prosecutor General's Office said.
"While in labor migration in Russia, Vokhidov contacted his fellow villager M. Burkhonov, who was fighting in Syria on the side of ISIL, via the social networking site Odnoklassniki. Burkhonov familiarized Vokhidov with the ideas of the terrorist organization via the social networking site and convinced his fellow countryman to go to Syria, to which the latter agreed," the report said.
Vokhidov, who intended to go to Syria with two other fellow countrymen, was detained in September 2016 by the Russian special services and was handed over to the Tajik authorities.
