Pakistan sets to increase Russian weapon purchases - Pakistani defense minister

KARACHI. Feb 14 (Interfax) - Islamabad counts on the boosting of military-technical cooperation with Russia, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said.

"Our relationship, defense cooperation has come a long way and lasts for five years. It is improving with every passing day. We have negotiated and we intend to negotiate more for more cooperation and more purchases of defense equipment from the Russian Federation," Asif told Interfax.

He recalled that Russia and Pakistan have concluded a contract to deliver helicopters in 2015.

"There is a contract, and we are expending our cooperation and collaboration between the Russian Federation and Pakistan. We look at this relationship [...] and coming month and years the situation will expand," the defense minister said.

"There is a contract: helicopters and some other equipment, but not jets yet," the defense minister said in response to a question whether Russia will deliver Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets to Pakistan. "We are looking for sources from where we can buy air platforms in future," he also said.
