DONETSK/KYIV. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian military mounted an artillery attack on the village of Spartak and the Yasynuvata area on Wednesday, Eduard Basurin of the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces are firing 122mm and 152mm artillery on Spartak and the Yasynuvata area at the moment," Basurin told Interfax on Wednesday evening.
Explosions were heard in the direction of the northwest of Donetsk.
Kyiv, for its part, said that one Ukrainian serviceman had been injured as a result of militia strikes as of 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
"All in all, 24 shelling incidents have been recorded. One soldier has been injured," the press center of the headquarters of Kyiv's army operation in the south-east of Ukraine said on Facebook.
Militia forces fired mortars and infantry fighting vehicles on Vodyane, it said.
"Large-caliber machineguns and small arms were used against Shyrokyne, Hnutove Vodyane and Pavlopil. A sniper targeted Novotroitske," it said.
Ukrainian military positions near the town of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region came under 120mm mortar attack, and grenade launchers were used against Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of the urban-type settlement of Zaitseve, Bakhmut district, and the village of Pisky, Yasynuvata district, the press center said.
A sniper was targeting Ukrainian military positions near the village of Lobacheve in the Novoaidar district of the Luhansk region.
