BANGALORE (India). Feb 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia and India signed arms supply contracts totaling almost $2 billion in 2016, Rosoboronexport Deputy General Director Sergei Goreslavsky told the press at the Aero India 2017 show.
"In 2016, Rosoboronexport entered into dozens of contracts for the delivery of military products to all branches of the Indian Armed Forces totaling almost $2 billion," Goreslavsky said.
In addition, intergovernmental agreements were signed at the Russian-Indian summit in October 2016 to build frigates for the Indian Navy at Russian and Indian shipyards, to deliver long-range anti-aircraft missile systems, etc., he said.
"A joint venture has practically been set up to build Kamov Ka-226T helicopters, and marked progress has been made in the project of the joint venture manufacturing Smerch rocket launcher ammunition," he said.
There are rather large and relatively small contracts between Russia and India, he said, adding that lesser contracts envisaged the delivery of spare parts and components.
"By the way, despite the popular myth, Rosoboronexport never rejects small contracts, and their number is rather high every year," he said.
Rosoboronexport is ready to cooperate with India in any area, including arms supply, technology transfer or after-sale maintenance, Goreslavsky said.
"I have mentioned just a small portion of the projects, each of which costs hundreds of millions or even billions of U.S. dollars," he said.
