MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - A Moscow-proposed draft constitution for Syria should promote discussions in the necessary direction, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said ahead of the start of talks with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
"We have put forth our draft constitution for Syria, which may not be accepted in its current form, but may give an impetus to discussions in this direction," he said.
The meeting is being held "ahead of the negotiations in Geneva and on the same day as the consultations in Astana brokered by the Russian Federation, Turkey and Iran," he said.
"We support your efforts aimed at implementing [UN Security Council] Resolution 2254 on Syria," the Russian minister said.
