MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry is counting on UN humanitarian assistance to Syria, including the removal of hindrances to the delivery of medicines and medical equipment, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura at a meeting in Moscow on Thursday.
"Of course, it is of paramount importance to continue the restoration of peaceful life. We are pinning big hopes on UN agencies and other humanitarian organizations in the field of fair and countrywide distribution of humanitarian aid brought to Syria," Shoigu said.
He said he was referring to Eastern Ghouta, Deir-ez-Zor and other besieged districts.
"Indeed, we cannot help but mention the difficulties experienced across Syria; I do not make a distinction between the opposition and the authorities; I am speaking of problems with medicines and medical equipment experienced by the people of Syria. We very much hope that hindrances to the delivery of medicines and medical equipment will be removed with your assistance and support," the minister told de Mistura.
"This is what Syria needs so much in the fight against terrorism, especially as many units of the opposition, the domestic opposition are fighting terrorist groups," he said.
